The Dawn Chorus of the birds reminds us that God enables us to Sing a New Song to the Lord, even when our voices are weak or the world seems troubled. Join us on the first three Mondays in Advent to be reminded of why and what we sing
No luncheon on December 19. Join us and invite others. In order to help us prepare, sign up using the form below. A suggested donation of $5 per meal is appreciated but not required. Donate online or in person. Thanks to Nelia Partain and her team of volunteers for preparing the lunches.
November 28: A Song of Hope
Dr. Michelle Herring Folta, Associate Professor of Choral/General Music Education at Columbus State University and Artistic Director of Voices of the Valley Children’s Chorus, and member of St. Thomas Choir. She will speak about Voices of the Valley and the hope she finds in helping children learn to use their voices.
December 5: A Song of Peace
Members of the advisory committee for the Cure Violence Initiative of Columbus will speak about their work to address violence as a public health issue and bring more peace to our community. The team includes Mr. Cedric Hill, Funeral Director of Hill-Watson-People’s Funeral Home in Columbus and President of the Rotary Club of Columbus; Dr. Asante' Hilts, Program Manager for the West Central Health District of the Georgia Department of Public Health and Program Director of Cure Violence Columbus; Rev. Cedric Hill, Jr. Pastor and Missions Director for NCCpm in Newnan; Dr Ashley Hill DrPH, University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, faculty; Mr. Reggie Lewis, Systems Development Director, Applications at TSYS and co-founder of the Cure Violence Initiative; and Jerome Lawson (not pictured) who leads the work of "violence interrupters" on the streets.
December 12: A Song of Joy
Mr. Paul Pierce, Producing Artistic Director, and Mr. Keith McCoy, Associate Artistic Director at The Springer Opera House in Columbus will speak about the joy The Springer seeks to multiply in our community and how actors prepare to tell a joyful story on stage even when they may not be feeling joyful.
