The Psychology of Christian Nationalism: Why People are Drawn In and How to Talk Across the Divide

In 2025, Bishop Wright spoke to the House of Bishops about the threat of Christian Nationalism. He described it as, “a set of beliefs, practices and policy goals which are fundamentally at odds with the gospel but presented as harmonious with the gospel . . . Christian nationalism has succumbed to the devil’s last temptation of Jesus: the offer to exchange devil worship for control of worldly kingdoms.” Several Episcopal dioceses have explored this topic with the help of this book. The goal of the book is to understand who comprises the Christian nationalist movement, what they believe, how they get drawn in, and how to engage in dialogue.

We invite you to read the book in June and then gather to discuss it in July. A light supper will be served each evening and child care will be available if needed. Registration is required by June 28 in order to help us prepare. We ask that everyone who plans to participate take time to read the book.
