More than a decade ago, St. Thomas planted a seed of hope by offering a free neighborhood soccer camp. Today, that ministry has grown into Boxwood Soccer Club, serving youth ages 6–17 through the East Carver Heights Community Development Corporation. More than soccer, Boxwood offers young people mentorship, belonging, and the opportunity to grow in confidence both on and off the field.
This season, East Carver Heights was not planning to field U16 and U18 teams for older players, primarily due to extra costs. However, the older players asked for the chance to play. Some of these players have been part of the program for eight years or more. We don’t want finances to stand in the way of saying “yes.”
The total cost for a soccer season is around $11,000 per season for four U8 to U14 teams. Adding U16 and U18 will add about $6,000 to the cost. ECHCDC is trying to raise as much money as possible to support all of these teams, including teams for the older players. The average cost for a player in the program is around $200, including league fees, uniforms, equipment, and other costs. Gifts of any size will help Boxwood Soccer Club include as many players as possible.
Together, we can ensure these young people have the opportunity to play, grow, and experience the support of a community that believes in them.
