Holy Baptism

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble. Book of Common Prayer, p. 298.

People of all ages are invited to the waters of Baptism. Some come as infants, sponsored by parents and Godparents who make the Baptismal vows on their behalf. Others come as children, youth, or adults, making a mature, public commitment to Christ. In Baptism, we enter into the Baptismal Covenant, and the whole congregation renews our commitment to that Covenant together.

Baptism is usually offered at the Easter Vigil, the Day of Pentecost, All Saints’ Day, and the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. Additional times may be scheduled as needed.

Confirmation

Confirmation marks a mature affirmation of the Baptismal Covenant. If you were baptized as a child and now wish to claim the promises of Baptism for yourself, we invite you to be Confirmed.

At St. Thomas, we generally offer Confirmation classes for youth ages 12 and up beginning in the fall. Through conversation, Scripture, worship, and exploration of the Episcopal tradition, youth are invited to consider what Confirmation means and discern whether they are ready to be confirmed early the following year.

We are also beginning a new Confirmation process for adults this fall. Details about the adult process are coming soon.

Reception

Reception into the Episcopal Church is for those who have made a mature Christian commitment in another denomination and now wish to live out their Baptismal vows as part of the Episcopal Church.

Reaffirmation

Reaffirmation offers an opportunity to renew the promises made at Baptism and to mark a new or renewed commitment to the life of faith.
