St. Thomas Flower Ministry – Refreshed and Expanded

Flowers at the altar enhance the beauty of worship and draw us closer to the God of all creation. We are delighted to share an expansion of this ministry.

Ralph Wimberly has agreed to serve as St. Thomas Floral Artist in Residence. Ralph will be available to design custom arrangements for Sunday worship and special occasions like funerals.

Sara Ginter will serve as Coordinator of the Flower Guild. She will recruit and organize volunteers to arrange flowers for the Chapel and Nave for Sunday worship. Arrangements made by the Flower Guild will be designs of their choice.

Beginning in September, donors have two options for sponsoring flowers on Sundays.

  • $100 for flowers arranged by the Flower Guild. Flower Guild members will choose flowers based on what is available locally.
  • $150 fee plus the cost of flowers for flowers arranged by the Artist in Residence. Donors have the option of specifying the color and type of flowers used in the arrangement.

The Artist in Residence will arrange flowers for Sundays that require a particular color, like Pentecost or All Saints Day.

On most Sundays (with the exception of Lent), we will have 2 small arrangements in the Chapel and 1 or 2 large arrangements in the Nave. The Chapel arrangements will be moved to the Narthex after the 8:30 service. At the end of worship, donors may take some or all of the arrangements home and return containers later. Remaining flowers not needed for the following Sunday will be broken down into smaller arrangements and available on Wednesday nights to take as pastoral care gifts. On Sundays when flowers are not donated, flowers from previous weeks may be reused, or we will use green plants.

Sponsorships must be confirmed at least two weeks in advance. Flowers may be given in honor or memory of someone, and these acknowledgements will be in bulletins for both services. We hope every available Sunday will have a sponsor.

To volunteer for the Flower Guild, contact Sara Ginter or sign up through the Ministry Sign Up Form. A Flower Guild lunch and training session will be held after worship on September 13.
